BlackRock CEO Sees Growing Interest in Crypto

BlackRock CEO Larry Fink has said that he is seeing increasing interest in cryptocurrencies from his company’s clients. In an interview with CNBC, Fink said that “more and more of our global investors are asking us about crypto.”

Fink believes that cryptocurrencies have a “differentiating value versus other asset classes” in helping to diversify portfolios. He also noted that cryptocurrencies are “so international” that they “will transcend any one currency.”

Fink’s comments come as BlackRock is seeking approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to launch a spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) in the United States. If approved, this would be the first spot Bitcoin ETF to trade on a U.S. exchange.

Several applications to list a Bitcoin ETF on the spot market have been rejected by the SEC in past years. However, BlackRock’s filing has sparked renewed hopes of imminent approval, given the asset manager’s overwhelming success in getting ETFs approved. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, BlackRock has filed for 550 ETF applications and has only been rejected once.

Fink said that BlackRock is working with regulators to ensure that any Bitcoin ETF it launches is “safe and sound and protected.” He also said that the company believes it has a responsibility to “democratize investing” and that ETFs “are transforming investing.”

BlackRock’s application for a spot Bitcoin ETF has been followed by several refilings for similar ETF products in the United States. Asset managers in line for a green light include Fidelity, Bitwise, 21Shares, WisdomTree and Investco, among others.

While American money managers wait for the SEC’s decision, Europe’s first spot Bitcoin ETF is set to debut later this year by London-based firm Jacobi Asset Management. The product was scheduled to launch in 2022 but was postponed due to the bear market. According to Jacobi, the demand for a Bitcoin ETF has been gradually shifting since last year.

What is the goal of this portfolio?

The “Top Ten Crypto” portfolio is a democratically proportioned portfolio balanced based on votes from members of the RSC community as to what they believe are the top 10 projects by potential.

This portfolio should be much more useful given the ever-changing market dynamics. In short, you rank the projects you believe deserve a spot in the top 10. It should represent a portfolio and rank that you believe will stand the test of time. Once we have a good cross-section, we can study and make an assessment as to where we see value and perhaps where some diamonds in the rough opportunities exist. In a perfect world, we will end up with a Pareto-style distribution that describes the largest value capture in the market.

To give an update on the position, each one listed in low to high relative risk:

Platforms == ETH, XTZ

Private Money == XMR / ZEC / ZEN

DeFi == MKR / SNX and stablecoins

It is the most realistic way for us to distill the entirety of what we have learned (and that includes the RSC community opinion). We have an array of articles that have gradually picked off one by one different projects, some of which end up being many thousands of words to come to this conclusion. It is not capitulation because we all remain in the market. It is simply a consolidation of quality. We seek the cream of the crop as the milk turns sour on aggregate.
