BlackRock Bitcoin ETF Joins Top Five

Within just 17 days of its introduction, the BlackRock iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) has quickly ascended to become one of the top five exchange-traded funds (ETFs) of 2024 in terms of inflows, as per Bloomberg Intelligence data. The ETFs outpacing IBIT in inflows are primarily established index ETFs from giants like iShares and Vanguard, which track the S&P 500 and the broader stock market. Leading the pack is the iShares Core S&P 500 ETF (IVV) with a staggering $13 billion in year-to-date inflows and assets under management amounting to $428 billion. Following closely is the Vanguard 500 Index Fund ETF (VOO) with $11.1 billion in inflows and nearly $398 billion in AUM.

The Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC) also makes the top 10 list for ETF inflows this year, securing the eighth position with $2.7 billion in inflows, marking a notable accomplishment for newly launched funds.

Despite the initial surge, the overall investment pace into the new spot Bitcoin ETFs has decelerated recently. Nevertheless, BlackRock’s IBIT and Fidelity’s FBTC continue to attract consistent positive flows since their debut, distinguishing them among their peers.

The investment landscape for these Bitcoin ETFs is poised for a significant transformation with the anticipated approval of options trading for these funds.
